The NHS Whittington Health Trust is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community. In today’s increasingly digital world, they sought an innovative way to enhance patient engagement and streamline access to key resources. Our task was to design a unique 'QR Code Tree Poster' that would enable visitors and patients to easily access important information, from health services to appointment bookings, all through their smartphones.
Objective:
The primary goal of this project was to create a visually engaging and informative poster that would make it easy for patients and visitors to access a variety of NHS services. The QR code tree concept allowed us to incorporate multiple digital links in a single design, enabling users to quickly scan and retrieve the information they need.

Approach

We approached the project with the goal of balancing creativity and practicality. The design needed to be eye-catching, clear, and easy to use while ensuring that the QR codes functioned seamlessly. The poster also had to align with the NHS's brand guidelines, maintaining professionalism while embracing innovation.

Key design elements included:

  • Tree Concept: The idea of a ‘QR code tree’ was chosen to symbolise growth, care, and the interconnectedness of services. The branches of the tree represented different categories of NHS services, with QR codes placed along each branch, leading to specific online resources.
  • Visual Design: We adhered to the NHS brand colours and typography to ensure consistency with their identity. The design was kept simple and clean, with the tree acting as the central visual element, while the QR codes were strategically placed to make scanning easy for users.

Implementation

  1. Poster Design: The poster was designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The tree illustration was subtle but engaging, drawing the eye without overwhelming the user. The QR codes were clearly labelled with descriptions, allowing users to know exactly what information they were accessing before scanning.
  2. Technical Integration: We ensured that each QR code was thoroughly tested to link seamlessly to the appropriate NHS web pages, making it easy for users to book appointments, access health advice, and explore services in a matter of seconds.

Outcome:
The QR Code Tree Poster has provided NHS Whittington Health Trust with an innovative and effective tool for patient engagement. By centralising access to a wide range of services in one place, the poster simplifies the process for patients and visitors, improving their overall experience at the hospital. The combination of clear design and intuitive functionality has made it easier for patients to navigate NHS services, while the creative tree concept adds a friendly, human touch to the healthcare environment. The poster has been well-received, with increased engagement and positive feedback from both staff and visitors.
